Bayonetta 3 gameplay has also been showcased on multiple occasions, giving fans a look at the crazy combos they’ll be able to accomplish in the new game. For returning fans of the franchise, it seems that Bayonetta 3 will largely revolve around gameplay that players will be used to, allowing Bayonetta to build up some impressive combos, taking down bosses and groups of enemies with her impressive arsenal, as well as using Witch Time to increase her speed.

As well as featuring the mechanics of the past games, Bayonetta 3 will include some interesting new combat abilities as well, including the Demon Slave summons and Demon Masquerade. As shown in a trailer posted to Game Informer’s YouTube channel, Demon Masquerade imbues Bayonetta’s many weapons with the powers of demons, allowing her to take on different forms such as Gomorrah, which gives her longer jumps and bestial claw attacks. This influences the witch’s combat style as well as giving her a new Beast Within transformation depending on the weapon she’s using.
Moreover, fans got a look at some gameplay of Viola. Viola is a witch in training in Bayonetta 3 and will be the only playable character for certain sections of the game. From the look fans got at her combat style in the new footage, it seems that Viola does not have as many weapons as Bayonetta, as she mainly utilizes her sword and throwing knives. Alongside her own abilities, Viola can also call in her demon summon Cheshire to aid her in combat. Cheshire is a large, cat-like demon that can unleash some devastating attacks, clearing groups of enemies.
Other features will be making a return in Bayonetta 3, such as environmental puzzles and side activities if a player doesn’t want to continue with the main story. It seems Bayonetta 3’s story will certainly be an interesting one, but many are sad to see that the original voice actor for Bayonetta won’t be playing the Umbra Witch in her third outing.
Bayonetta 3 releases on October 28th, 2022, for the Nintendo Switch.
