Fans hopes for some Bayonetta 3 news were understandable, as director Hideki Kamiya had shared his hopes about a new Bayonetta 3 update coming this year. With the E3 Direct being such a big stage for the game to be shown, it seemed like the best possible chance for the game to appear. Unfortunately, like all the other years, the latest entry in the Bayonetta franchise was nowhere to be seen. In response, fans have shared their fears about the project, with many pointing to the canceled Platinum Games project Scalebound as a reason for their fears.

All across the internet, gamers have been quick to say that the game is doomed. Some have even suggested that development on Bayonetta 3 has stopped, something that goes directly against Kamiya’s own comments about Platinum Games making good progress. Always outspoken, the director replied to some of these baseless claims by calling those that were spreading them “idiots.” He then proceeded to explain his frustration in some follow-up Tweets.
According to Kamiya, his specific issue is with “reckless remarks” about development stopping or the game being “delayed” indefinitely. He calls these baseless accusations “annoying” and a “waste” as well. While Kamiya is understandably frustrated with these comments, it is easy to understand why fans are concerned about the game. It was announced four years ago, and despite several comments that development is going well, nothing has been seen. With many hoping that 2021 would be Bayonetta 3’s year, the lack of footage is devastating.
At the same time, Kamiya is correct about how bad it can be to spread misinformation. While it is fine to be concerned, saying that the game has been canceled without any remarks from Platinum Games or Nintendo is a major issue, as many could start to believe something about the game that is not true at all. For now, it seems like it would be for the best if fans took Kamiya’s advice from earlier this year and lowered their expectations for Bayonetta 3 news. While development is supposedly going well, the new Bayonetta not appearing at E3 makes a 2021 update a lot less likely to happen.
Despite Bayonetta 3 being absent from E3 yet again, Kamiya’s anger seems to imply that the game is still in a good place and there is nothing going on behind the scenes to worry about. However, when exactly Bayonetta 3 will be seen in action seems to be anyone’s guess, as this situation feels eerily similar to the ones that have played out over the past few years.
Bayonetta 3 is in development for the Nintendo Switch.
