Baylor is in negotiations to open the 2016 season in Australia, according to FOX Sports Southwest. Athletic director Ian McCaw confirmed that he had filed a proposal for a potential international game for the Bears Tuesday during an ESPN radio interview.

Although no plans have been finalized, Baylor’s future opponent in the Land Down Under is assumed to be a Pac-12 team. SicEmSports.com believes Cal-Berkley is the most likely candidate to fill the spot with Sydney and Melbourne as the leading game day host destinations.
The Co-Big 12 champions have taken heat for their arguably weak scheduling. Baylor has not played a Power 5 conference team since 2009. However, McCaw has already scheduled home-and-home series with Duke and Utah and says there could be more improvements to the Bears’ future schedules soon. They will open up the 2015 season on Sept. 4 against SMU.
There may be more than one opportunity for fans to travel to the Outback, too.
ESPN’s Mark Murphy reported earlier this year that the Pac-12 was discussing adding a bowl game in Melbourne with a potential target date set for the 2016 season.
