Batwoman takes place in the ongoing ‘Arrowverse’ continuity, which started with Stephen Amell’s Arrow series and lives on with shows such as The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Stargirl, Superman & Lois, and Black Lightning. With that being said, many of Batman’s villains have made brief appearances in the Arrowverse prior to the Batwoman show, including Harley Quinn, Amanda Waller, and even Deathstroke. However, Batwoman does a good job at not only relying on popular characters like Bane or Joker in order to keep viewers and makes a point to introduce lesser-known characters such as Batwing.

So far, Batwoman has tapped into Batman’s B-Tier rogues gallery with characters like Black Mask, Hush, Zsasz, and Cluemaster. The season 3 trailer kept this trend going by showing the two villains who will appear in Batwoman, which will be Mad Hatter and Killer Croc. As fans may know, Killer Croc already had a live-action debut in the less popular 2016 David Ayer Suicide Squad film, which gave him a smaller human appearance as opposed to the giant monstrosity he becomes in the comics. Mad Hatter appeared in the 1960s Batman series as well as Fox’s Gotham, but the character is typically a relatively underutilized villain.
The Mad Hatter takes a huge amount of inspiration from the classic Alice in Wonderland story and is often known for utilizing mental trickery as well as mind control in order to fight Batman and his allies. He controls his minions, he tries to get inside Batman’s mind, and he is also both deranged and dangerous.
It was also reported that Poison Ivy will be making an appearance in the upcoming third season of Batwoman as well, but this won’t obviously be her first live-action appearance, as she’s previously appeared in the 1997 Batman & Robin film and also made an appearance in Gotham. She’s typically a foil to Batman, but her devotion to the planet isn’t ill in intent until she starts taking it out on the people of Gotham.
Batwoman will be making a big stride into its third season after replacing its lead actress, but the show managed to write Kate Kane’s departure into the Batwoman story. With the show’s success continuing, expect Batwoman to remain on air for a good amount of seasons, and hopefully with the introduction of Bruce Wayne/Batman at some point.
Batwoman season 3 will debut on October 13th, 2021, on The CW.
