As seen below in the official gamescom 2018 trailer for Battlefield 5, DICE and Electronic Arts’ “Devastation of Rotterdam” video first gives players an overview of the type of combat one should expect to encounter in the rubble of the obliterated city with a chaotic mix of tanks, aerial attacks from planes, gunplay, melee kills, and more. Those who stick around toward the end of the footage, though, will be given a sneak peek of what the shooter’s Battle Royale will look like, as what appears to include a rain of fire slowly closing in on players’ positions as they fight for survival.
With DICE and Electronic Arts having only teased Battlefield 5’s Battle Royale as an appetizer for the beginning of gamescom 2018, there’s a good chance that the developer and publisher will offer up a more in-depth gameplay video at some point during the event. Should that not occur, though, players won’t have to wait much longer to get a better idea of how the mode will handle, as an open beta will go live next month.
For those unaware, Battlefield 5 won’t be the only major AAA first-person shooter to be riding the wave of the Battle Royale craze by adding its own version of the mode, as its competitor, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, will also include its own Battle Royale type called “Blackout”. With this being the case, Black Ops 4 has a better chance at drawing in a bigger crowd of Battle Royale fans due to the fact that it will be coming out a little bit before Battlefield 5. Of course, we will simply have to wait and see which performs better once both titles are officially out in the wild.
Battlefield 5 is set to release on October 19, 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
