Alan Kertz, Senior Gameplay Designer on Battlefield 3, heard fans’ concerns and took to Twitter to in an attempt to allay any fears gamers might have about the game’s balance. In a series of tweets, Kertz made it clear that he wanted the game “to feel as balanced as humanly possible.”
He explained what this meant in regards to body armor and armor-piercing ammo by letting everyone know that there was no way to increase a player’s health, lower the damage they take from bullets, or increase the damage done. According to Kertz, the armor piercing ammo will have some material penetration abilities while the regular ammo little have little to none.
Having a balanced multiplayer mode can do a lot to extend the life of a game. Sure, unlocks, perks, and other carrot-on-a-stick reward systems can keep players coming back for more but ultimately even those games need to have some level of balance too in order to keep players interested in the game longterm.
With the Battlefield franchise having such strong multiplayer roots and Battlefield 3 bringing a substantial single-player campaign to the table this time around it is not hard to see why fans of the franchise might be a little concerned about something like balance. After all, there is only so much a the team at DICE can do and squeeze into a game before it releases. It is nice to see however, that they appear committed to making Battlefield 3’s multiplayer experience as balanced as possible.
Do you think the DICE will achieve the balance they are looking for? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
