Battlefield 2042’s Portal was confirmed during the Summer, but EA recently showed off the new game mode. Players will be able to explore content across multiple generations of Battlefield with Portal mode and various tools that allow fans to enable and disable various items in order to fully optimize their experience. It has been confirmed that this includes Specialists, enabling fans to deactivate their least favorite Specialists for any given Battlefield Portal match.

With how much Battlefield 2042 Portal information came out all at once, it’s easy for players to miss smaller details in the recent trailer. Several fans are clambering for the new game mode so that they can delve into classic content from Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Battlefield 1942, and Battlefield 3. Because Specialists are new to Battlefield with Battlefield 2042, fans looking for the authentic experience may choose to disable the new characters in favor of a classic feel.

Reddit user ChickenDenders recently pointed out that players will be able to mix and match the new Specialists with original Classes from the older Battlefield titles. Their example compared Battlefield 2042’s Specialists with the limited selection of soldiers representing Battlefield 1942. The mode will also feature Classes from Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 3, allowing fans to pick their favorite characters from each title represented in Battlefield Portal.

Portal offers a uniquely customizable experience that’s new for the Battlefield series. If a fan has a favorite title, weapon, Class, etc. they can build a Battlefield 2042 match around that in order to relive their glory days or invoke feelings of nostalgia. Fans are already speculating what experiences they’ll create with Battlefield Portal, and with the game releasing in a few weeks, they won’t have to wait long.

Because Specialists can be disabled, players can choose to keep all of the Battlefield 2042 characters regardless of which era of Battlefield fans choose to emulate. Keeping the modern Specialists in an older era setting may create new experiences with classic maps, while offering the original Battlefield experience through other Classes may bring in lapsed Battlefield fans. Because fans can enable and disable these characters at will in Battlefield Portal, the possibilities are extensive.

Battlefield 2042 releases on November 19 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
